Elevated lead levels collected in tap water samples in Pittsburgh, PA in 2016 prompted a regional response. Prioritizing environmental justice ensures that the most vulnerable populations and economically disadvantaged groups are engaged and protected. Here we describe a community-based outreach model of targeted distributions that serve the most susceptible populations. We supplemented with discussion-based educational workshops, thereby reaching households and families that may have otherwise been marginalized. The impact of this model protects public health and ensures environmental justice.
