CAPT Tarah S. Somers has been a Commissioned Officer stationed with ATSDR since 2001. CAPT Somers started with ATSDR in Atlanta, then moved to the ATSDR Washington DC office and is currently the Regional Director for ATSDR Region 1 in Boston. Throughout her career at ATSDR, CAPT Somers has worked to help protect people from environmental exposures. CAPT Somers is a champion of ATSDR’s Choose Safe Places program to prevent children from being exposed to environmental hazard while they attend child care. As a nurse by background, CAPT Somers tries to inspire other nurses to become involved in the Environmental Health field.
