This presentation will focus on areas of school environmental health inspection that sanitarians typically address as well as those that might not be part of routine inspection. Attendees will gain knowledge on general school environmental health inspection, school safety, and challenges that schools face with regard to maintaining safe and sanitary buildings and grounds. There will be a strong focus on providing a behind the scenes view of how schools operate and possibly some areas that aren't typically seen when inspecting. Further, included in the presentation is a discussion on school safety and alternatives being used to reduce school violence, respond to active shooter situations, and how local health officials are part of the team keeping students safe and secure.
