Gregory Sayles is the Director of EPA’s National Homeland Security Research Center headquartered at the EPA laboratory in Cincinnati. The Center conducts research and develops technologies that enhances EPA’s capability to carry out its homeland security responsibilities associated with terrorist attacks and other disasters. The Center works closely with EPA and local emergency responders and water utilities to improve their capabilities to characterize contaminated urban areas, protect and respond to water system emergencies, understand the fate and transport of environmental contamination, assess exposure, and clean up contaminated indoor and outdoor areas and water systems. The Center’s science has been used by local, state and federal responders to help address many environmental emergencies. Dr. Sayles brings more than 25 years of research, planning, and management experience to this position. Greg began his career conducting research on bioremediation of petroleum, PCBs, and chlorinated solvent-contaminated soils and sediments, later studying environmental sources and risk management of endocrine disrupting chemicals.
