Description

Understanding the Needs, Challenges, Opportunities, Vision and Emerging Roles in Environmental Health (UNCOVER-EH), an innovative research initiative launched by the Center of Disease Control, the National Environmental Health Association, and Baylor University, was launched to examine the EH workforce and practice by directly engaging with EH professionals in health departments of the United States. A web-based survey sent in November 2017 collected demographics, characteristics, practice areas, and challenges directly from EH professionals. Initial workforce data analysis in 2018 focused on a national level response from over 1700 practitioners. However, the needs, challenges, and practices of EH professionals may vary across geographical regions. To understand the geographic workforce characteristics of EH professionals, we analyzed professional characteristics data collected from the UNCOVER-EH survey among ten US Health and Human Service (HHS) regions.
