The legalization of cannabis for medical and/or recreational use in many states has transitioned the business of marijuana and marijuana-derived products from black market dealers in private homes and alleys to experienced professionals in clean, well-lit dispensaries. Although cannabis is still federally illegal, state governments and health departments have stepped in to regulate the industry to provide oversight for the growth, production, and sale of marijuana and marijuana-derived products.
