Description
Legionella bacteria is a water-borne pathogen that colonizes in, and is distributed by, our building water systems. Susceptible individuals are exposed to the bacteria when contaminated water is aerosolized by various man-made water systems such as hot tubs, cooling towers, decorative fountains, sinks and showers. Legionnaires disease is largely preventable if certain steps are taken to minimize the exposure risks. The development and utilization of a water management plan that identifies areas of concern and implements control measures, in addition to its validation through environmental testing, can lead to a dramatic reduction in risk and liability.
