Dr. Protzel Berman has been with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since 1991 and received her PhD in Health Services Research and Health Policy at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. From 2008-2016, Dr. Protzel Berman served as the Deputy Director of CDC’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. In addition, she was the Associate Director and Deputy Associate Director for Policy, Planning, and Evaluation in CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control and National Immunization Program, respectively. She has had substantial congressional experience in both the U.S. House and Senate and has worked in government relations for a public health organization. Dr. Protzel Berman received her B.A. in political science from Tufts University and earned her MPH in health policy at the University of Michigan. Dr. Protzel Berman’s current responsibilities include advancing the Center’s science and programs by providing leadership in legislative affairs, partnership development and health policy analysis. During her CDC career, Dr. Berman was responsible for implementing new policy initiatives and advancing legislative policy for childhood immunization and injury control programs.
