Bio

I am working as an Associate Professor position in the Master of Public Health program of College of Health Professions at Grand Valley State University. I received my MPH from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and duel PhD in medical anthropologist and demography from Penn State in 2005. My diverse educational background in public health, Social work, medical anthropology, and demography helped me teaching and doing research in environmental health, community health at government, non-government and academic settings. Since 2008, I have been engaged in public health research, education, and community health advocacy in Western Michigan and Grand Rapids. My research has focused on areas like i) health risks of indoor radon gas in West Michigan, ii) transdisciplinary assessment of water quality and development intervention in Haiti and Bangladesh, iii) sustainable healthcare services for the homeless population in Grand Rapids, MI, and iv) Assessment of healthcare for veterans in West Michigan. I have done extensive ethnographic research on public health issues in my home country of Bangladesh, in the U.S. and in Haiti. I led a group of GVSU students to Ghana for a 7 week long study abroad program. I have been working with the Community Health Advisory Committee, Kent County and the Planning & Performance Improvement Department, Ottawa county. I have been involving undergraduate and graduate students in my public health research projects including Radon and health.
